Dressage Test
Narelle Whatley, Monday, 17 August 2009 New dressage tests, changes to eliminations on XC, Qualification for Trials and more..
Clubs should have a complete set of the relevant rules before the start of any competition they are organising. These can be downloaded from the EA website and any PC changes to these can be found in the Addendum to the EA rules on the PCAT website. Please make sure that all judges and officials are aware of any new rule changes affecting their part of the competition. Riders with two horses in Championships Riders may only be considered once for a team. When two or more age groups/grades count for a team as in the dressage and jumping championships, the horse which is the most beneficial to the team score will be the team entry. If both are in the same Eventing Grades 1 or 2 they must name their team horse and it must be ridden first. EVENTING Rule changes. The CCP have agreed that all the new rules adopted by the EA this year will be adopted by the PCAT except rule 3.1 relating to Yellow Cards. Herewith a summary of those that will be affected. For Organisers Directions for Eventing Fence Judges All clubs should reprint these new ones if they have not already done so. I have made a slight adjustment to the positioning of a clause to the ones issued in December but it you have reprinted those already I suggest that you do not go to the expense of doing them again as it is included. Flags left on Course All flags must be positioned for course walking so every class' route is clearly defined. Coloured tape (same as the grade) on the flag sticks is recommended. They may all be left on the jumps for the whole of the competition – they do not have to be the precise ones for that grade only – but we do advise discretion where there are multiple routes through a complex, eg at the water or yards. Rubber bands put on flags wrapped around the peg of jumps that are not in use are encouraged. PCAT Newsletter no 49 August 2009 3 Qualifying for Trials Interschools ODEs are not qualifiers for Trials. PC events only count for Grades 2 and below. Grade 1 may use one EA qualification. Dressage tests Grade 1 – Novice 2B Grade 2 – Novice 2A Grade 3 – Preliminary 1A PCAV tests will be used for Grade 4 – PCAV 4B and grade 5 PCAV 5B with canter and PCAV 5A - no canter. The PCAV 4B test may count as a Dressage championship qualifier for C group riders. Whips They may be used in the warm-up area, but once a competitor is asked to present to the judge they should be discarded. If a rider takes it around the arena with them, even if dropping it there, they will be penalised 4 points by each judge. As before, if they proceed into the arena with it, they are eliminated. Walking home after a XC fall No one may continue on course after a fall. The PCAT has gone with the EA rule that this may be done mounted or dismounted, providing it is safe to do so. Anyone who is injured should not ride or lead their horse home but get someone else to do so. Fence judges should call for a helper if needed. Number of Refusals Deliberate Time Wasting Games Teams – Reserve Riders Explanation: you may name a rider in the 14-16 yr category as your first reserve, but a younger rider is the one who has to be replaced so the second reserve is the actual replacement rider. Clubs may name more than one reserve so that the ages' criteria are met. However, only the first reserve will receive a ribbon unless the second reserve rides in their place. PCAT have adopted the EA Rule which states:- In the case of competitors in Pre Novice and below classes (all PC classes are), the time of the finish should be taken at the time when deliberate time wasting (eg slows to a walk, circling or zig-zagging) to avoid penalty for under time becomes apparent. This should encourage riders to learn to pace their rounds to suit their horse's stride. that eliminates a rider on the XC course is 4. Once a rider has had that many it is up to them to leave the course at the Championships. At our qualifying events, most clubs allow riders to continue riding the course, but they must move to the next fence after a third one at any single fence (this is to prevent cutting up the ground too much). This rule has been in for the last year, but to clarify it: in the vicinity of Dressage Arena are not allowed for grades 1, 2 and 3. This is for Eventing dressage – riders may carry a whip in pure Dressage – as may Grades 4 and 5 riders carry a whip throughout their test. The new EA 2009 ones have been adopted this year for grades 1, 2 and 3. They are Riders must complete all phases without elimination. As there is now a limit of 4 refusals on a course before elimination our old limit of 85 penalties is irrelevant so has been deleted. For Riders RULES – CHANGES and REMINDERS |
